Message 421 Temporary system problem

Message 421 Temporary system problem

Hello,

hmail server has been working fine for months. All of the sudden I get people reporting that messages with attached documents are not going through and sometimes getting to thier destination after 4-5 hours. This is no doubt hmail on a retry finally being able to deliver the email. The error is as follows:

This has been happening since last night around 10pm. We use Google apps for business and there was a reported service interruption yesterday according to the dashboard. I have set me retires to 5 minute intervals from 60 minutes. I would just like to be pointed in the right direction to figuring this out. i have seen other posts on this board that address the same error number but with the text "Temporary local problem." However like I said this set up has been working great for months and I have been very happy with it. Obviously the server has a static address.

The business machine is a multifunction device that uses one of our Google Apps accounts because the machine doesn't support SSL inherently so it has to pass through Hmail to connect to the account.

Any help appreciated.

421 is a temp fail meaning trying again later just like the response says. You'd need to contact the recipient to confirm if there is really a problem or not but it's their end responding to you so only they can tell you the real reason the message is being delayed.

Thank you for the response. This was my first thought since this is listed as a response from the remote server which in this case is our Google apps smtp server. I would completely understand asking them about thier ability recive mail wich I have and have not got an answer for as of yet. However, I get the same error sporadically when trying to send mail to other people within my domain. This seems like a Google issue. They had bouts of unavailability yesterday and Postini services were unavailable for quite some time. That was yesterday morning though at 8am. I have a support ticket in with Google and I wanted to make sure that it wasn't something broken on my end. Like I said hMail has been running like nothing less then a champ for me without issue ever since I set it up.

One thing I do not have set up is an SPF record with My Google Apps Domain. I have not had to have this up to this point and this was what was recommended by Google support. Has anyone had to go through this step before with SPF records and is it a setup step that I completely missed?

You should not get a 421 sending locally unless you are relaying thru another server or possible real-time av installed giving the 421 response. But the log clearly shows a google server response and only google would know the reason. they could be rejecting you due to spf but their response really should say that although they are not required to.
